Wildlife Crime
For the past two decades I have reported on the illegal wildlife trade. It’s an industrial-scale trade driven by organized criminals, who corrupt local officials and recruit and arm local poachers. As the pace of road-building and deforestation grows, penetrating the last wild places, it helps satisfy the growing demand for exotic wildlife for animal restaurants, private collectors, safari and theme parks and zoos. The animals that are sold live into the black market are destined for a life of solitary confinement and mental torture, merely to satisfy our demand for entertainment.
